Father Gilpin Council was founded
on March 23, 1988.
It is named after
Father George Edward Gilpin who was
the only native son to go on to the priesthood from Church of Our Lady.
He was born June 18, 1917 to Edward and Ann Gilpin. He was Baptized July
1, 1917 and attended Westmount Public School and the Moose Jaw Technical
High School. He also attended Campion College, in Regina and completed
his education at St. Joseph's Seminary in Edmonton. He was ordained a
subdeacon June 13,1948. Father Gilpin was ordained at the Church of Our
Lady of the Blessed Sacrament on April 3rd,1949 and was parish priest at
Maryland for nineteen years, at Chamberlain for eleven months and at
Marquis for a year and a half. He died on March 27, 1971 at the early
age of 52 and was buried from the Church of Our Lady on March 31st,
1971.
